Sega 32X Sega Genesis 32X (32X for short)was released in 1994,the same month as the Sega Saturn, and was an add on for the Mega Drive and Genesis consoles. It was connected to the Mega Drive/Genesis console via the cartridge bay.
Only 500,000 consoles were produced for North American, yet orders were in the millions.
To get the console released for Christmas the games were rushed so many had errors in them which made them difficult to play and kept crashing. Doom had almost half the levels missing. Some were reported not to be compatible with the consoles, so Sega where forced to give away adapters. As this proved to be an expensive accessory, Sega started to offer £50 discounts on games with the consoles in Europe, but came as a rebate voucher which was difficult to use.
Due to the problems it faced the Sega 32X was discontinued in 1996.
